BHS Varsit Hockey 1-0-1

Los Diablos, recently ranked 8th in the state in the Boston Globe, beat Melrose 7-1 on Saturday, December 18th. It was a successful game for the Devils, who needed to get their first win under their belt. The devils were able to prove that they had a solid defense, an issue that lingered preseason. Trevor Cimino, the second line center, had a total of five points- two goals, three assists. Let's just say he was having a "Stat Night." Hopefully the Devils can keep it up. Theres an update from d-tweezy.

Put It On The Line...

BHS Varsity Hockey 0-0-1

First game has taken place... it was a battle. The game took place in Billerica with a bumpin crowd. The adrenaline was in the air, especially when a fan favorite, Adam Crowley, delivered the "hit heard round the world." The game was back and forth between the Devils and those green guys with feathers. After a couple of periods, and goals by 4-Roll, Hoody, and Trella Man, the score was tied three to three and ended in a draw. Great opener. Twizzlies Targeting has begun...

Save The Tigers

I found an organization supporting Tiger populations. I did not choose this site strictly because of my passion for tiger but because of the whole idea that in a changing world such a powerful creature can be diminshed. It's a real wake up call when an animal that is clearly stronger and faster than any human can be "losing the battle" of life. I find it astonishing that only 3,200 tigers are remaining in the world! The saddest part is, these animals are not the only species dying out. We need to preserve these animals and our environment because EVERYTHING is interdependent, and if one thing is off, then everything is changed.

Bill Gates vs.who?

So I have had a pretty busy week cause of hockey tryouts and two term papers at the same time as well as an AP course work load, but here is my response to an interesting article i read on education reform. Recently Diane Ravitch has questioned Bill Gates and his attempt to help modify school systems. She states that he has been supporting the wrong group of people. He is backing a group of people that judge teachers based strictly on test scores and nothing else and she is claiming he should change his ways of support. What do you thin? Can a billionaire make this big of a mistake? Or is this lady just tapped?

Yudu

Yudu is a very useful site for finding articles, books, magazines, etc. It is free to create an account. It has an online library of all these thhings and can be useful in many ways. Whether you need a source for a paper you are writing or if you just want to do some casual reading, Yudu can provide you with what you need. I recently did some light reading on horses and homes in "Equine Canine and Country Life," but if that stuff doesn't float your boat feel free to read around. Twizzles is outta here

10,000 Hour Rule

I recently took part in a leadership program at BHS. There was a "billion dollar" guest speaker there who goes by the name, Timothy Wolleager. Mr. Wolleager did many activities with us where brains was better than brawns. Mr. Wolleager also showed us this book called "Outliers" by Malcolm Gladwell. It was an interesting book but one thing I found very interesting was the idea of the "10,000 hour rule." This rule said that if you put 10,000 hours of dedication and hardwork into something, then sucess is a gurantee. It gave many examples, one being billionaire, Bill Gates. It also mentioned "The Beatles" and their 10,000 hours. I like the idea of the 10,000 hour rule. You always hear teachers and parents saying "All it takes is hardwork" but when there is an actual number next to it, the reality seems to sink in. Just some more Twizzlie Thoughts..

Irrelevant?

I recently read a blog post that left me with the question, "If I do good in school, will I suceed in my future career?" The author stated how he knows many people that did terrible in school but have been very successful in their career. So is all my hardwork at school completely irrelevant to what I will be doing six or seven years from now? Will all these late nights and red bulls be meaningless? Maybe I will get into a good college, but what does that leave me other than more education-based skills and strategies? Just some more Twizzlies tinkering...

Leo, My Man

Many of you know Leonardo Di Caprio for his great acting skills. I admire him for this, but what I idolize him more for is his involvement in keeping the world "Green." Whether you know this or not, he has an "Eco-site," that I find very interesting. Take a look...

He's Still Got It..

My entire life I have idolized Tom Jones. He is a man of class and is smooooother than Skippy's Peanut Butter. At a young age, I would perform "It's Not Unusual" at family parties, at school, and even at a restaraunt for a women's 70 birthday. Tom Jones and his music always brings a smile to a saddened face. Even after all these years he can still perform like he is twenty-five. God Bless Tom Jones because he changed my life. This video is a Twizzles Tribute.

Gonna Crush Michelle's Blog For Good... Watch Out World

A Little Help

My Principal recently showed our Web 2.0 class an interesting site that will help with math and science. Say you decide to completely zone out when one of your teachers is talking (not saying i do that), you can go on this site and then you can watch a lesson on what you are studying. Kinda cool and definitely could be considered as a Twizzles Tool.

A Parkin Procedure

Recently, my period 3 honors world history class performed a trial in determining whether or not Napolean Bonaparte was guilty in accounts of treason, destruction of cultural artifacts/religion, and international terrorism. Overall, I would say the project went well. I was the direct examiner for the Prosecution of Napolean. Let me say the courtroom was ferocious and at one point I wanted to throw punches in an outburst of anger. Key to the courtroom was all about patience and remaining calm. I could feel my emotional attachment to the case in a way I would have never imagined. I actually had my opinion of Napolean altered through my research and really wanted him found guilty. At times, I feel the courtroom was unbalanced and followed a such a standard rubric that every question was considered a "leading" question which hurt the progress in the trial. It got to the point where opposing lawyers (and even defending witnesses) would simply wait for the words "Did you-" and then BAM! in came a hard objection. Kinda ridiculous but I did like the project; alot better than glueing pictures on a posterboard and handing it in. Theres some Twizzly Thoughts, hope you can consider it.

BHS Varsity Soccer

I pledged to my blogging community that i wouldn't post another loss and so there is a large discrepancy in my soccer posts. The season is over now and we ended 3 points away from the playoffs. Being a first year player on the team, i can not feel any more honored and thrilled to have had the experience i had. The team really had great chemistry and everything/ everyone seemed so real. Although record wise, it didnt meet our expectations, the season was still a sucess. I found new members to the candy crew and shared pure enjoyment with these guys. Thanks for a great season boys, and good luck in the future. Now i need a McTwizzle Moment...

Survey

I just took a survey on surveymonkey.com. It was very interesting in the questions asked and i would have liked to see the common answers of the people who took it. Many of the questions seemed to find the influence of the beliefs people have. Kinda cool and maybe i will make a survey soon on the blog.

Makes the Song 5 times more appealing

Acoustic Week?

Im Gonna Post An Acoustic Video Everyday This Week Stay-Tuned.... Twizzle Tunes

Today's Education

I recently watched an interesting video in my 2.0 class speaking about modern education. The main idea is that our style of learning was formed years ago and is essentially outdated. It does not incorporate modern technologies of the world and therefore creates an unbalanced mixture between school work, social life, media, and every other topic in the world. The people who run the education have been apart of this system and have simply just relayed the "product-line" learning techniques to the youth. They have been in this process so long that any escape to a new and more effective system seems virtually impossible. I personally believe there is an overwhelming amount of things thrown at me in one day. Whether this be chemistry, math, history, gossip, technology, media, sports, biology... the list is endless and everyone is just trying to jam it in to a stomach that has no time to digest. It influences a learning experience that isn't as effective as i feel it could be... but hey at least i have my freedom of speech.

Privacy Issue, GET OUTTA MY SPACE PLAYA!

Social Networking has some scares. The thought of random people "creeping" on your personal life is a threatening thought. Many people do not take this into account when the post status updates and personal pictures on social networking sites. Many parents are concerned for the child's well-being on these sites. BUt i feel you enter these sites at your own risk. If parents are concerned they should have their children fix it, do not have the site completely alter the way it works because your a little over protective. Twizzlies don't know whats gotten into y'all?

Edutopia

Recently BHS's Web 2.0 class was mentioned in an article about classroom's developing this generation's modern technology. We were one of three school's mentioned, and hands down the best. Reading the article, you might learn what the class is about so if your are interested sign up for the course. I am a slightly bitter but nonetheless happy my co-blogger/ web 2.0 rival was mentioned in the article. Congratulations Michelle, your blog is finally in the visual of my rearview mirror =P. Starting The Trend

For any of you that are interested in blogging, here is my advice:

1. Give a little humor, i would say a solid 95% of people in the world like a good laugh.
2. Create an interesting name and an attractive page
3.Promote your blog on facebook or twitter... No one uses myspace anymore...
4. Continuously blog!!!! = no one cares about three blog posts. You won't be getting any "ad" offers doing that.

BHS Varsity Soccer 4-4-2

I vow this will be the last time i submit a post that reports a loss by the Red Devils.... Today los Diablos played Melrose on their lands. The battle was strong but in the end, the Devils were weakened by a giant-toddler, #14. Today I did notice superb managing and thought it should be recognized. Ben Kalibala, we love you. From Twizzles heart to yours.

BHS Varsity Soccer 4-3-2 ( a little late)

BHS is getting back their footing. After losing that last game to a score i don't want to mention, the Devils played Lexington in a loss, 3-1. I firmly believe it was because we were all upset about the absence of our warm-ups and although that is a valid excuse, we should not have such materialistic views on our team. All we seem to want is "the money and the cars." Despite our chase to count the paper, we managed to sneak a goal in last game with our team ninja, Ariya Mannermana. He moves so swiftly with his yellow cleats, his legs look like a blur of the sun. Twizzlies like a good JUDO-CHOP! at the end of a game, now keep blogging!

Warm -Ups? and Ladies Game

When are we getting these warm-ups? Is Skywalker playing us for his father? I had to comment on the new soccer warm-ups, which as of now are nasty but only half the job is done.... Luke, can you complete the task?

I am also here to talk about the Ladays Soccer game which was a whomping against Watertown. I was hoping the ref would call for the mercy rule at one point because i could feel their pain running through the most minor of capillaries in my system. The passing and synchronization of the BHS girls team was as inspiring as the Story of The Golden Boy (Christopher Rolli [warrior of Conceison and proud member of the squad]), who left a life behind him to voyage on to new and wonderful experiences and opportunities in the land of Burlington. Great Game ladies.

My Favorite Song

Gym Class

Twizzles gets tired. I love physical excersize and doing tasks that have a goal involving physical exertion but enough is enough. I honestly believe that if a student plays a sport in a season, gym class should be OPTIONAL. I run around all day after school, i don't need to toss a frisbee around for twenty minutes and have to finish hours of homework later on in the night. I get enough excercize at my sport and am crunched for time after school, and thoroughly believe that time spent playing capture the flag could be beneficial for my schoolwork. Just a Twizzlies Thought, let it sink in.

DRACULA!

A little clip from debatably my favorite movie, "Forgetting Sarah Marshall"

BHS Varsity Soccer 4-1-2

WEEOOOOOOW! It's a hurricane up in here! BHS recently played Wakefield in a battle at sea. Weather conditions were so brutal it was almost nice out... yes, you read correctly. On another note Ronaldo Baczewski came to play, poppin in two goals with the help of Derek "Skittles" Skinner. Mad irony was going around because the weather was so bad but skittles was making soo many kids taste the rainbow. Gideon Kasiyre also contributed with an elegant tap-in provided by Lucas "Snookie" Restivo. Toward the end of the game, Wakefield came back but we crushed that rebellion like the opening day of Halo Reach. Anyway, we added one to the first stat, and Twizzlies couldn't be happier, Word to ya mutha.

Movie Review

I have recently seen Ben Affleck's new movie, "The Town." Let's just say Gigi or whatever that terrible movie was, is in the past. His new movie takes place in Charlestown, Mass, pretty close to home, and has everything from flowers to bank robberies. Twizzles likey.

I Apologize

I have realized that my blog has lost focus on many events that are going on in the world today, and i have been highlighting the progress of the soccer team. I will start to broaden my posts and attract those readers that don't solely appreciate the game of soccer. So here comes some new style posts...

To cheer us up, a little Darius action always helps

BHS Varsity Soccer 3-1-2

They say every dog has its day, looks like the devils had theirs against the woburn tanners. Burlington came out strong in the first half which resulted in a 0-0 outcome. 18, the diez y ocho, steady, came out straight playing fools like an irish lad on the fiddle. Unfortunately, the next half we were pummeled by a pair of yellow cleats..enough said. Twizzles doesn't wanna linger in the past, boom goes the dynamite.

(we lost 4-0)

Article Response

The idea of the facebook wall is pretty ridicululous. The article covers the concept of how it used to showboat your "wit" and even "flirt", all publicly. Rather than sending a message on facebook, completely private between two people and cause little controversy, facebookers decide to write for the world to see. Troubles can come from the wall and could hurt one's reputation but we can't resist the temptation and fall, as millions have, into this trap. Twizzles is trying to wiggle his way out of this one.

I Had To

BHS Varsity Soccer 3-0-2

I'm not a big fan of stealing, but i love taking games from people that had it served to them on a silver platter. I might be mistaken but i saw the refs accept a couple of dollahs from an outside source. These Zebras decided to make more calls then Verizon. Regardless to the terrible calls, for both teams, i was amazed at the amount of red/yellow cards given out. At one point i thought i was back in 2nd grade trading Pokemon. Despite the large dictation the referees bestowed upon our game, Burlington managed to swipe another tie a man down. Both times we have started out weak, we have resulted in a tie with extreme effort in the 2nd. With literally seconds left, a hand ball in the box (which should have been a red card, sorry Gideon)gave BHS a penalty kick. Tyler "Ronaldo" Baczewski took the kick, and came up clutch. Proud of the squad today, looks like they couldn't handle the candy crew. A little shake and bake from Twizzles and im outtie 5000.

DJM talking about a PLN

A PLN can include a variety of things. For those of you questioning what twizzles is talking about when he says PLN it refers to a PERSONAL LEARNING NETWORK. This could include many sites and tools you utilize on the computer to help you enhance your learning quality and efficiencies. Many say twitter and facebook are effective, others use sites like delicious.com. I personally would like to create a site that could positively help students in a spefic class. One day, people will get a taste of Twizzles.

BHS Varsity Soccer 3-0-1

Still Undeafeted, i'm feeling it. Burlington played Stoneham yesterday despite the sudden burst of rain sent down upon these warriors of the field. Burlington faced an unfortunate red card and was faced to proceed the game a man down. Unity- the key to our success last game. With one less player on the field we came together (similar to the "flying-v"), and came out with a tie. As long as that second number remains at zero, Twizzles is "A" ok. We'll bring home a "W" next game. My name D-Twizzles and i came to get it.

Response To Bully fighting video

The use of facebook can be very effective as a learning tool but it can lead to many negative outcomes. As seen in the clip, facebook led to trouble in a school community. The response of the school and town adminstrators was to simply get off facebook. Is this the right solution to a bullying issue? Should the actions of a few affect this many? I feel the students are now being drained of a 21st century learning tool. When there is a fight in a classroom is the class banned? No. It was simply the actions of a few and has passed. Let facebook live on. Twizzles, out.

BHS Varsity Soccer 3-0-0

"Veni Vidi Vici" (I Came, I Saw, I Conquered) once said the old conquerer who went by the name of Caesar.  Well theres a new conquerer from the Aegean Sea and he's titled, Viscily. With minutes remaining in our game against Reading, this Greek warrior hammered the ball home for our army, the Red Devils, or in this case Οι κόκκινοι διάβολοι. The Devils struggled at first but turned it on in the second half and brought home the "W." Lets just say the made it look "scily."  There's another update from d-tweezy, gracias.

BHS Varsity Soccer 2-0-0

David vs. Goliath? Nah more like Dave Whitney vs. Melrose. Our goalkeeper, Dave played a fantastic game in between the two white poles. A close-knit game to the very end, Dave came up huge. Our goal was scored by Lucas "Snookie" Restivo, more recently reffered to as Luke Skywalker after his last performance. Overall though, Burlington had a strong performance and is ready to get some more stats and glory. Straight up! McTwizzles, Ya heard...

5 Easy Steps For Students To Establish Their Personal Brand Using Social Networking

This is a very interesting article and highlights the specific reasons i was weary in entering the unknown waters of the blogging world. I am hesitant in what i write and i feel that takes away from my blog. I would love to have a completely anonymous blog therefore have the complete freedom to say what i want and not have anything held against me. But until that day i remain Twizzles (G- Rated)

Goo-Goo for Gaga?

Are you goo goo for Gaga? i mean shes got good music but she takes the artsy stuff to the next level, it honestly scares me. she has videos that portray death nearly every time and i simply just change the channel. Her music is good dont get me wrong but the whole i-need-ten-people-to-help-me-get-dressed thing is over the top. She should have just stayed on the stage at the VMAs cause she probably absorbed a solid hour of the show just trying to get back and forth. Next time just have a rhino collect her awards, it might be easier. Twizzles doesnt like her taste

BHS Varsity Soccer 1-0-0

My team had our first soccer game today against Watertown and won, 1-0. The goal was scored by Lucas "Snookie" Restivo. Unfortunately i am still recovering from shoulder surgery and could not play but the team played well. The goal is the state tournament and we will achieve it. Just thought i would throw at you a litte bit of twizzles for your day.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IGMabBGydC0&ob=av2n

My Introduction

This being my first blog makes me somewhat of a nooby. I hope to one day have my blog as entertaining as barstoolsport.com or as knowledgeable as Mr. Larkin (high school principal) but until then, i remain the red-headed, 16 year old beginner. I will soon be posting some interesting videos so stay tuned.
