BHS Varsity Hockey 4-3-1

It is nice to get another win under our belt. The devils went into a little slum and are finally crawling out of it. We recently played Lexington and won 5-1. THis was a game we needed. We have faced alot of sickness and injuries this year as well as a suspension. The devils are indeed making progress though. Special shoutout to call-up Jomo Moran for scoring a goal in his first varsity game of this year. A Twizzlies Review..

Apps Review Continued...

A third app I found was the "Free Books" app by Spreadsong Inc. This app has a boat load of literary classics. It would be very useful for English classes because you would not need to go buy a copy of the book you need, instead you could download it. A fourth app is "The Presidency" app. This app would be very useful for a U.S. history class, so you could review and learn about each president of the U.S. A fifth app I found was KD Marine Life by ImagineThis. This app would be great for an Oceanography class because it is an encyclopedia filled with facts about the ocean and it's life.

IPAD!!!!!

I am currently typing this blogpost with an iPad. My school has recently purchased 30 iPads and are testing them out in my web 2.0 class. An app that I have recently found and thought would be a quick brain excersizer is the math quizzer app. It gives you quick math questions on a whiteboard and gives you a selection of answers. I could see it being very beneficial for a early middleschooler to sharpen his or her skils. I also found an AP biology review app, that gives a list of terms from each chapter. This would be very successful for studying for a midyear. This one does cost 99cents though, but it definitely seems worth it. More apps will come!

BHS Varsity Hockey 1-1-1

Tough Game. The third game of our season, the devils played The Reading Rockets. Reading has been a good hockey team for years now, and this made the hype for the game even greater. After two periods the game was tied at 1-1. It was hard-hitting, and high in intensity. Shift after shift was a battle. With under 15 seconds left in the last period, the devils had a faceoff in the defensive zone that was lost. Reading seized the opportunity, scored with 9 seconds left, and won the game. Til we meet again.. This was a Twizzles Tragedy..

Los Diablos, recently ranked 8th in the state in the Boston Globe, beat Melrose 7-1 on Saturday, December 18th. It was a successful game for the Devils, who needed to get their first win under their belt. The devils were able to prove that they had a solid defense, an issue that lingered preseason. Trevor Cimino, the second line center, had a total of five points- two goals, three assists. Let's just say he was having a "Stat Night." Hopefully the Devils can keep it up. Theres an update from d-tweezy.

Put It On The Line...

First game has taken place... it was a battle. The game took place in Billerica with a bumpin crowd. The adrenaline was in the air, especially when a fan favorite, Adam Crowley, delivered the "hit heard round the world." The game was back and forth between the Devils and those green guys with feathers. After a couple of periods, and goals by 4-Roll, Hoody, and Trella Man, the score was tied three to three and ended in a draw. Great opener. Twizzlies Targeting has begun...

A New Season, A New Sport

With Soccer underway, 'tis the Hockey Season. I will begin bloggin about the Burlington Varsity Hockey Squad as soon as he games begin. As of the scrimmages, so far so good. But until the first game, judgements are useless. Another report about another Twizzlies Team.

Save The Tigers

I found an organization supporting Tiger populations. I did not choose this site strictly because of my passion for tiger but because of the whole idea that in a changing world such a powerful creature can be diminshed. It's a real wake up call when an animal that is clearly stronger and faster than any human can be "losing the battle" of life. I find it astonishing that only 3,200 tigers are remaining in the world! The saddest part is, these animals are not the only species dying out. We need to preserve these animals and our environment because EVERYTHING is interdependent, and if one thing is off, then everything is changed.

Bill Gates vs.who?

So I have had a pretty busy week cause of hockey tryouts and two term papers at the same time as well as an AP course work load, but here is my response to an interesting article i read on education reform. Recently Diane Ravitch has questioned Bill Gates and his attempt to help modify school systems. She states that he has been supporting the wrong group of people. He is backing a group of people that judge teachers based strictly on test scores and nothing else and she is claiming he should change his ways of support. What do you thin? Can a billionaire make this big of a mistake? Or is this lady just tapped?

Yudu is a very useful site for finding articles, books, magazines, etc. It is free to create an account. It has an online library of all these thhings and can be useful in many ways. Whether you need a source for a paper you are writing or if you just want to do some casual reading, Yudu can provide you with what you need. I recently did some light reading on horses and homes in "Equine Canine and Country Life," but if that stuff doesn't float your boat feel free to read around. Twizzles is outta here

10,000 Hour Rule

I recently took part in a leadership program at BHS. There was a "billion dollar" guest speaker there who goes by the name, Timothy Wolleager. Mr. Wolleager did many activities with us where brains was better than brawns. Mr. Wolleager also showed us this book called "Outliers" by Malcolm Gladwell. It was an interesting book but one thing I found very interesting was the idea of the "10,000 hour rule." This rule said that if you put 10,000 hours of dedication and hardwork into something, then sucess is a gurantee. It gave many examples, one being billionaire, Bill Gates. It also mentioned "The Beatles" and their 10,000 hours. I like the idea of the 10,000 hour rule. You always hear teachers and parents saying "All it takes is hardwork" but when there is an actual number next to it, the reality seems to sink in. Just some more Twizzlie Thoughts..

Irrelevant?

I recently read a blog post that left me with the question, "If I do good in school, will I suceed in my future career?" The author stated how he knows many people that did terrible in school but have been very successful in their career. So is all my hardwork at school completely irrelevant to what I will be doing six or seven years from now? Will all these late nights and red bulls be meaningless? Maybe I will get into a good college, but what does that leave me other than more education-based skills and strategies? Just some more Twizzlies tinkering...
